How to format and setup an empty floppy disk?
This guide will walk you through the formatting and the establishment of a floppy disc foot. This is a good way to know, because the most diagnostic programs rely on a bootable floppy disk to the Diagnostics on the system to run. Since most of our leaders need you a bootable floppy disk at one point or another, we provide a guide, you create in depth information to prepare your disk so you into problems when running.
Step by step instructions:
The first thing you will need a floppy disk, formatting is a 3.5' 1.44 mb floppy disk, any information about you, you need to save. The reason why you must ensure that it isn't important, data is, as soon as you start the formatting process all data on this CD are wiped turned off and you are non-refundable. So, make sure that it not saved e-Mails or your English assignments that are due at the end of the week.
If you want to format a hard disk, that you insert into your floppy disk drive and then open the "My computer" icon on your desktop by double clicking it. In the my computer window, you see several volume names. You are for the A:\ Drive search that is in your floppy drive.
[in some cases it can be other letters such as B:\, but A:\ is the most common.]
After you have selected the drive check whether this is indeed your floppy disk drive to ensure that no important data from your hard drive to pay off. The volume name should be displayed as:
3½ Floppy drive (A:))
If you have checked that it is the right drive, right click it and a menu opens with various options. Look for the option "format" menu. [Usually lies near the middle of the menu] Select the format option and there a window open format A:\.
The format window provides you with several options:
01. Capacity
02. File system
03. Allocation unit size
04. Volume label
05. Format options
The following sections detail explains, so that you know what each is and what they do during the formatting process.
The "capacity" of the disk shows you what type of disc you are currently working. Should not this select, if you use a non standard floppy disk, in this case probably the selection of knowledge will make you. The most common type of disk is:
3, 5-1, 44 MB, 512 bytes / sector
This is your average, everyday disc. This should almost always there by default so you need to make the most of the time not to change this selection.
The next section is the selection of "File System". This can be more relevant if you in optimizing options to squeeze out of every last bit of performance. The main thing is to remember fat is the file system that was used often with Windows 95, 98 and Windows 2000. Where as the NTFS file system normally with Windows 2000, XP Home and XP Pro was used.
FAT [file allocation table] was an older file system that was time is good for it, but some of the features of newer NTFS file system is missing. NTFS has also slightly better compression allows you a little more space of the media by using get this file system.
In the production of a boot disk, is the main thing you do when you need to set up your disk to remove the data. The program that you use to make your hard drive is usually care what must be file system on the hard disk. So, if you are not sure, must select you are, not sweat, and go out with the default options of the format dialog box window.
Next, the section is "allocation unit size" of the dialog box format. The technical definition of this is "a group of sections on a magnetic disk, which may be reserved for the use of a specific file". The fact that I give unto you a definition instead of a statement you can know that you don't really need provide in this section. If you find this guide, from the basics like a hard drive format read on in this section does not relate to your project. This would be more for someone, which create a disk for a particular purpose, and certain criteria must be met.
The "volume name" is the title of the hard disk. In most cases, these things can be that you you want to be. I highly recommend it empty, if above all you need to create a blank floppy disk can be. As already mentioned, if the drive fills a label this information for you is the program that create your disc. You can use like in this section, if you create a blank floppy disk for school work or personal data, in which case you could call it "HAUSAUFGABEN" or anything else that you remember what information is on your hard disk.
The final area is your format options. There are two main options in this category. "Quick format" is an option that allows quickly delete data from a hard drive you. [There are also "Enable compression", is an additional NTFS function, which is mentioned above]. The quick format option can be used as long as the disk full at least once has been formatted as you started to use. The main purpose is to save time, but since that not much longer full frame option, it's prefer up to you you. For any kind of boot disk, I would like to do a complete formatting and leave this option disabled, make sure that I run not to problems in the creation of the disk.
The other option is "Enable compression", is a single NTFS feature. Remember languages over NTFS with more features, such as we above. This is an example of this. If you are using a system disk FAT file system, this option is not available most likely. [i.e. dimmed]
Now you have a full understanding of the format Windows floppy disk and on the options you set up a blank floppy disk should feel comfortable. Remember to remember that you usually don't need to set a lot of these options as it does a good job by default, what you need. This manual basically give the additional information you need to Setup additional options if you ever need to do.
Now that the options are set, go ahead and create your blank disc so that you can easily make your bootable diagnostic floppy.
