500 000 $ Geek Cyberheist [crime]

crime

Avatar for Adrian ChenAdrianA 0,000 Geek CyberheistChen – yesterday, a man woke up to find out that nearly $ 500,000 in the value of virtual cash napíchal from your own computer as a thief. The first of the great robbery Bitcoin is on us!

If you have spent time in nerdier parts of the Internet in the last few months, you know, that is, the trends of the Bitcoin hyper virtual currency, championed by geek warriors, hackers, and drug dealers. Completely decentralized, open-source and almost anonymous, essentially as a function of the Bitcoin digital money. Compared to users can store their wallet in the bitcoins file on your computer, in the Bank or Paypal account. Unfortunately, such as money, Bitcoins are gone forever, theft, or computer are on is destroyed.

Rolling high fanatic, who goes by the Allinvain claims that on Monday afternoon, someone blew us 25 000 Bitcoins from his wallet and put into another anonymous account. At the current exchange rate of $ 6.72 for Bitcoin is $ 467,500. (Although the exchange rate reaches as high as ~ 29 dollars in the last few days.)

"I feel I will kill, and now," said Allinvain wrote the Bitcoin Forum after the discovery of the theft. He was an early adopter of the Bitcoin in 2010 and held its currency from when it was worth just pennies. "I remember that track the price like a hawk," he writes. His plan was to eventually use its cash and profit to the opening of the Bitcoin business. "Needless to say, I feel like I've lost faith in the Bitcion," he wrote.

Allinvain says that he noticed was hacked some special activities with his computer, which suggests that. Although he could not rule out the possibility that someone physically stole his wallet Bitcoin file from your computer.

Geeks everywhere, for theft, debating whether it was possible to Bitcoin security or stupidity on the part of Allinvain. Another user of the Forum, said that he was hit by a hacker, who was his Bitcoins to the same account that was used to empty the Allinvain 's, which has led to speculation that a serial thief is on the loose. Bitcoin

"It is one thing, bitcoins. There is no FDIC or SIPC tracking back, "wrote commenter Hacker News. "It's the Wild West with train robberies and heists of all coach."

What made the theft of more dramatic, because the Bitcoin transactions in the public record all protocol, anyone can watch stolen from a hiding place in real time, that's around to different sloshed anonymous accounts, probably in an attempt to Bitcoin Wash is.

It is the only possible fraud in the Allinvain. Bitcoin developer Jeff Garzik says that "it is literally impossible to determine whether a post is B.S."– because of the Bitcoin is anonymous, someone may argue that own any of the account and there is no real way to prove it. But he adds: "it is true, as well as the actual wallet in your pocket, can be stolen bitcoin wallet."

Even if a hacker can attack your wallet with a Trojan horse. Also, your wallet will last almost 500 000 dollars. If for some reason, the half a million dollars from Bitcoins, it is stored in the computer locked in a large vault, twenty feet below the ground, you disconnect from the Internet, safe from the mysterious Bitcoin cat-burgler. Maybe in the Bank?

Google Wants To Mix Your Business With Social Network [Orkut Badge]

A lot of businesses do use Orkut/Facebook to share information about their business/product and Google is now urging businesses to create profile on Google Places and grab a badge that they can embed on Orkut.

“If you own a business and have an Orkut profile but you haven’t received this badge yet, simply add your listing to Google Maps. Keep in mind that your business doesn’t need its own website to be listed on Google!

Google Places allows business owners to manage information about their listings if they’re already on Google Maps, or to add them to the map if they’re not yet listed.
Once they’ve verified that the basic information about their business is correct and up-to-date, and added details like hours of business and photos, business owners can count on their listings being shown to Google users to grow their customer base. Their listing will appear among search results across Google, including Google Maps, even if they don’t have a website. And of course, this is all completely free.” [blog]

Once you create your business listing in Google Maps, your Orkut profile will earn a badge for your business (read: Google Brings Badges to Orkut–Too late in the Game?).

This is an interesting service where Google incentivizes small business owners to add their business data on Google places and is automatically integrated with Orkut, giving it the necessary ‘social’ push (though relevance of Orkut itself is a big question).

Do you think a Facebook app (that pushes Google Places data to Facebook) makes more sense for Google?

Insta7 – The Super Efficient Homepage For Your Mobile Browser

We recently discussed whether mobile apps are the new web and the appstores new browser. There is an interesting tool that is bringing apps and appstore back to the mobile browser.

Insta7 is a mobile site that works as an aggregator or bookmark service for the most popular browsing actions on your mobile. The app is actually a WAP site that works out of your browser and aggregates links to sites like Facebook/ Twitter or custom tools for news (through IBNLive) and Wikipedia / image search etc.

Developed by 2 young kids, Insta7 comes with a set of default apps including email access, following celebs on twitter, Cricket, Movies timings, Celeb Gossip, Horoscope, JustDial etc. and additional apps can be added from the ‘app store’. The list of apps is completely customizable as one can add or remove any app from the list.

What impressed me is that the team really understands the browsing habit of Indian users and has come up with the right list of apps. They have put in efforts develop app for whatever was not available/optimized for mobile access otherwise. Insta7 is amazing and works for the all sorts of users. When you think of it, you will realize it is dead simple and that is why it is useful.

Do try Insta7 and let us know your views.

Enjoy this promo rap song from the team.

moneysights Raises $270K From Blume Ventures & Naveen Tewari

We earlier profiled Moneysights, a Bangalore based startup that is trying to change the way an average investor makes decisions regarding investing in Stocks & Mutual Funds. The site’s USP as Santosh (cofounder) shared in detail (in the comment section earlier) is the set of tools that the product provides to an average investor enabling him/her to make informed decisions vis-à-vis investing in financial instruments (Stocks & Mutual Funds).

What we do & do in a unique way is help users take decisions on investments in Stocks & Mutual Funds. an average investor just has 1 question in mind – is this stock/MF good? does it make sense for me to invest in it? we answer these questions in an unbiased way. And in future, we would help the user invest directly from moneysights.

And NO, we AREN’T for people who like to research companies thread-bare. in fact, on the contrary, we are for users who are looking to CUT DOWN time they spend in researching & planning investments. we automate everything for them – right from discovering, planning, deciding & managing. you would notice we don’t have industry reports, balance sheets or P&L statements & plethora of information that adds confusion. we do all the complex math & come out with our views in form of ratings.

Started by ex InMobi employees, Moneysights has raised $270K from Blume Ventures and InMobi founder, Naveen Tewari. The funding was raised in February 2011 but is being made public only now. moneysights raised angel round from Prasad Duvvuri, who has held leadership positions in IBM India & Hewlett-Packard.

The funds are being utilized to grow the team and plug the online transaction platform.

moneysights intends to be a tech-led, low cost, online distributor of financial products (starting with Mutual Funds). Pre-buying, the biggest problem is to identify which product (from 1000s of choices available) is best suited to one’s need and risk profile.

moneysights helps users solve this problem through their smart product recommendation & discovery engine. The recommendation engine creates a portfolio of high performing Mutual Funds that minimizes investment risk & at the same time is well diversified across sectors, market capitalization, etc. You can also customize the recommendations based on your risk profile. During-buying, the product intends to provide a simpler, faster and reliable buying experience.

Post-buying, one of the biggest problem is a clear visibility into one’s investments. moneysights helps users track all their investments at one place and give them actionable insights by intelligently combining user’s data and product performance data from the markets.

Online as a channel of distribution is at early stages – only 5% of them are bought online (on an average,Online sales accounts for 18% of total financial products sales in India). The recent lowering of sales-commissions have put the current high-cost offline distribution channel at a big disadvantage. At the same time, consumers have started adopting internet for researching financial products in a big way. This has led to an aggressive push from the industry side to develop & support online Mutual Fund transaction platforms & keep transaction costs low.

According to a KPMG report, assets under managemnet of Mutual Fund companies are slated to grow to $430 Bn by 2015 which translates into distribution market size of $2.25 Bn, which is what moneysights.com is eyeing through their Mutual Fund offering. These trends combined with the clear tech-led differentiator make moneysights an interesting play.

Do give moneysights a spin and share your review of the product.

Synthesized Communication–Even Startups Need To Get This Right

With more and more communication taking place electronically, one would think that marketing folks would be looking into each leveraging every interaction as a means of building a brand relationship. However experience suggests that there are miles to go before e-communication gets integrated into the traditional marketing plans of even leading brands. convergence

After checking mail in my “Inbox”, I usually review the mail in the “Junk” folder to ensure that no important message has inadvertently been routed to this folder. Upon a recent review, I came across a mail from “Webmaster” and had “Despatch of documents through electronic mode” in the subject line. Even though it seemed like this mail was in the right folder, wanting to be doubly sure, I clicked on it and was surprised to learn that it was a message from the Investor Services Division of a company where I am a tiny shareholder. The message contained an attachment – a circular informing me that all communication (including notices and copies of the annual reports) henceforth would only be done electronically and, to quote the cold officialese, that “in view of the above, it would not be necessary to respond to the attached Circular”.

Why couldn’t the company – ironically, a top player in the hospitality business, no less – have communicated to me in a manner that was more personal, friendlier and more importantly not be confused with junk or spam mail? Why couldn’t the name of the company be mentioned? Why wasn’t the subject line different and one that would make me read it? Instead, the mail was in my “Junk” folder and worse, there was the real danger that subsequent, more important communication could get diverted to that folder with me perhaps losing out? Did the letter have to sound cold, impersonal and distant? How could a leading company in the hospitality business communicate so unthinkingly?

I received an e-bill from bill@tataindicom.com. After making the payment, I received an acknowledgement from Tata-Indicom-Support@tatatel.co.in. Why the two different domain names? Why isn’t e-communication with customers an important branding tool? Were customer support and marketing two different silos in this company?

Startups too aren’t immune. The official names of startup companies isn’t as well known as the “market names” or brands they represent. So why have this unknown company name in the email id of the employees? Why not use the brand name in all communications? Still several startups make the mistake of using both the brand and the official name and some make the bigger mistake of just using the official name. For example, imagine receiving an email from infoedge.in as opposed to naukri.com!

Few governments, certainly not the Indian one, can be accused of being innovative, citizen friendly and brand conscious. Consider this:

A senior Central government functionary from Ministry of Science and Technology used to use email to communicate very courteously, promptly and knowledgeably. The only issue I had was that his official email id (even printed on his letterhead) was “dept@rediffmail.com! Recently, I was informed by the gentleman who replaced this functionary that henceforth all communication was no longer to be sent to the rediffmail.com address but to another. Only this was a Yahoo.com account! How come the Govt of India doesn’t provide an official email id to its officers? The point is not whether it can (of course, it can) or should (of course it should!) but what it reveals about the mindset behind such efforts. Isn’t anyone in Government thinking of issues like security, storage or the impression this creates of a so-called IT Superpower (even discounting for hyperbole)? Isn’t there a CIO or CTO for the government who lays down, implements and enforces such simple policies and guidelines across ministries and departments? And this is the government that is implementing the world’s most ambitious IT project, namely the UID!

India’s great leap forward will be driven by a mix of policy, attitude, procedures, technology and governance. Someone once described India as a country with its head in the 21st century and its body in the 19th. While it is perhaps natural to wax lyrical and get all pumped up about the coming Indian dawn, it is important to note that it is in the minutest of details that the devil lies. Details that, for example, harmonize activities across departments, that showcase a single brand, that highlight a common set of values and propositions.

And in spite of this nation with its millions of gods, the devil can easily trip us all up.

Introducing PowerPlug Winner for May Month

At Pluggd.in, we simply heart the PowerPlug contest. The entire concept revolves around bringing ‘solid’ Indian startups to the world and show them what’s really happening in India.

As a token of appreciation, we do give PowerPlug winners awesome gifts (an iPad2 every month + loads of goodies like media mentions etc), but this unique contest brings a different perspective regarding Indian startups and we continue to deliver the real Indian startup stories to the world.

If you look at the last two contests, winners were companies who have been in business for quite sometime (3+years) , but this time it’s different. This time, we have a company which is relatively new, really building a cool product and has executed it very well.

In no particular order, here is the list.

- IIMJobs

- Muziboo

- Recruiterbox

- SMSTadka

- FindMyMatch

PowerPlug winner is a startup that inspires others (to kick ass! to go beyond the norm). PowerPlug isn’t about a startup raising fund etc etc – it’s about a company being the underdog and creating a business that delivers immense value.

And the winner for May month is..

Mark Zuckerberg new speaker works well with the liar [Flackery]

flackery

Avatar for Ryan TateRyanMark Zuckerberg's New Spokesman Works Well With LiarsTate – Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg hired a new spokesman, Joe Lockhart. The choice drew murmurs of approval in Washington, DC, and no wonder: it's a guy who handled the scandal with Monica Lewinsky to Bill Clinton.

Day after day in 1998, Lockhart, she stood up and defended Bill Clinton against the press, ruthlessly exposes all the methods, how the President lied when he said, "I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky." Such was his work; his work will include defense of Zuckerberg and company built against the charge that broke privacy laws, shamelessly misled users and normally covered up their real motives. Zuckerberg, like Clinton, he has a disturbing history of practicing the art of deception.

Lockhart "is a type of lease that has a sense for the company," said a former Clinton political operative. This is true on many levels.

What kind of Advisor Does A Startup Really Need?

I had a discussion with two entrepreneurs of a 3 year old startup in the travel space, who were looking for an advisor or mentor. They have both (along with another co-founder) run their web-based initiative for 3 years, and have done reasonably well to the point where they are starting at over 1.5 Million uniques monthly, and are actually profitable as a business. Their need for an advisor was to help them guide the next stage of the business and review their strategy for a few options to scale it to the next stage.

As a side note, I am consistently impressed by the depth of knowledge, and wisdom in most entrepreneurs (the current crop) who have started companies in the last 5 years. There are few questions that are “standard” or banal. They are more savvy about valuations, opportunities, and are seeking to actively grow their business to reach global scale, which has to be an awesome thing for all of us. Thanks to some excellent technology blogs, VC blogs, incubators, entrepreneur clubs, and many other sources of startup information, there are very few “basic hygiene” issues to ponder.

We got talking about the kind of advisor they needed. It was plain that they had they reviewed strategic options, learned about the market landscape and were clear on what  the pros and cons to each strategic choice they had in front of them.

Option 1 was to go for a “business advisor”. This would be a person who was a business executive from a larger company. I got the impression very quickly that any generic “business advisor” was going to run out of things to tell them within 6 months. This person would usually give you business advice that any experienced executive, CA or lawyer can, but with less of the specifics.

Option 2 was a “seasoned been-there-done-that entrepreneur” from the eCommerce industry with a company much larger. Most of these guys are running their own businesses and would rarely have any time to advice them. Worse, I have seen a few cases where mentors deliberately dont share key operational advice in the pretext of “competitive reasons”.

Option 3 was a “startup accelerator mentor” who was possibly a semi-retired, experienced technology executive at a large organization, who I definitely felt would help, but his lack of connections in the specific industry would make him fairly limited in use.

The final option was to look for an industry expert who can in phase 1) deliberate all the pros and cons of each strategy, then in phase 2) help connect the right people to the company based on her industry expertise and phase 3) help put some metrics and systems/processes in place to ensure rapid scale. It was obvious to me that for this team, this person would be the toughest to get, but would be the one with highest value.

I personally look for 3 things in advisors:

1. Can they give me time?

2. Can they help me with operational metrics and processes, not just strategy?

3. Can they help me scale my business from my current stage to the next “logical stage”.

I dont think I would ever look for an advisor from “cradle to growth”, since they are rare, but if I could get tremendous value from an advisor for 18 months, I typically consider that person a great advisor.

What’s your opinion?

Celebrities (and Chewbacca) glazing of their Vinyl collection [music]

Avatar for Sam BiddleSamCelebrities (and Chewbacca) Fondling Their Vinyl CollectionsBiddle – and what to Marlon Brando, Sophia Loren, and Audrey Hepburn have in common, is not only beautiful and mostly dead? Apparently she loved their vinyl records, as captured in the wonderfully nostalgic Gallery. There is also a photograph of Chewbacca sexy relaxation (with records!).

The whole thing to the ice hockey and simply sentimental, but you kind of pine tree at the time when he was somehow "show off" your music collection. Beyond just scroll down iTunes or Spotify library, or placing the iPod gently on the table. Well ...? It is also possible that we just shit about the pride of the collection of music, as we take what we want from wherever we want and take it with you 24/7 digital as a mound of bacteria. Even I can't remember where it is the last CD I bought--probably somewhere in my couch. And it really doesn't bother me.

Facebook is sharing the secrets of iPhone photos App [application]

apps

Avatar for Kat HannafordFacebook Has a Secret Photo-Sharing iPhone AppKat Hannaford — TechCrunch said Facebook's secret iPhone app "Looks cool" and "amazing", while most Android users would just be grateful for the Facebook app, really works. As some kind of merge paths, Instagram and colors that sounds pretty hot.

He is currently a stand-alone application, but Facebook may include into the main iPhone app to a later date, and even roll out the technology in a browser to Facebook too. As someone who regularly bangs his head against the wall, every time you save photos on Facebook, it would be great, thanks.

TechCrunch is still sorting through 50 MB of data and photos, which have been leaked, so one picture is all we have at present. But let us hope that we can find some more details about this groovy-sounding app, as soon as upload more and figure out whether it's Facebook at all now, that all of these photo-sharing applications are trampling on its floor ... or if it's a reaction to Apple baking Twitter so deep into the IDF 5. Alright, There Is A Village in UP That Decided to Rename Itself To..Snapdeal.com Nagar

We earlier brought to your notice, a Facebook/Twitter chatwala, the famous Google Gola and Snapdeal has trumped them all with a real Snapdeal nagar in UP. That is, Snapdeal has adopted a village called Shiv Nagar, in Uttar Pradesh.

snapdeal_UP_village

The initiative, which is first of its kind in this space, will involve partnering with the village in developing its infrastructure and basic amenities. To begin with, Snapdeal is resolving the foremost issue of unavailability of portable drinking water in the area by installing water pumps.

Subsequently, Snapdeal will extend support to the local school and hospital as well.  In appreciation of Snapdeal’s efforts for Shiv Nagar, the residents have decided to rename the village to “Snapdeal.com Nagar”.

A first of its kind in India and like me, if you think this is a marketing gimmick, I’d still say hats off to Snapdeal team:

a. for supporting 1 village (and we believe this is for real), and

b. using lateral thinking to drive the CSR activities.

We have covered Snapdeal story in depth on Pluggd.in and following links will give you the insight behind the company

Kunal started his first venture. a detergent company from his dorm room in the college. Took the product to 4,000 stores – all bootstrapped. That’s where he figured out the big business in couponing/sampling space.

Remember Government’s $35 Tablet? Launches This June [Will Cost Rs. 2,200/]

Remember the $35 tablet from Indian government? The project has gone through its own yo-yo cycle with government canceling the tender and delaying the project by more than 6 months.

The good news is that there is a light at the end of this tunnel and early this month, government announced that 10,000 (Sakshat) tablet will be delivered to IIT-Rajasthan in late June and over the next four months 90,000 more would be made available at a price of Rs 2,200/device.

Government will subsidize the cost by 50%, so a student would have to pay only Rs. 1,100/ for the device (though it’s hard to believe that the actual cost price of device is only Rs. 2,200/).

7 ‘’ Touch-screen2 USB ports32GB HD2 GB RAMVideo-conferencing facilityMultimedia content

Like we said earlier, we are ‘cautiously optimistic’ about the device and we certainly hope that this project lives up to its expectation.

If executed well, this can drastically change the way education is imparted and importantly, open up plethora of possibilities for startups/technology companies to build products around the education ecosystem.

5 Powerful Twitter Research Tools [List]

Twitter has a wealth of information, news and opinions on every topic imaginable. Identifying and separating what is relevant, interesting or actionable is a tough task but fortunately there are numerous tools that help us navigate through the Twittersphere.

There is not a single Twitter app or tool that satisfies all research needs. Most of my Twitter use happens through the iPad Twitter app or Tweetdeck on my laptop. But there are still times when it is necessary to go beyond those platforms to find and research information or people and to engage in conversations relevant to your area of interest.

I have categorized Twitter research tools into 5 broad areas and selected tools that help analyse data and user behaviour, identify influencers, and engage with people.

Tool: TweetStats

If you want to figure out how often you tweet, when you do it, and your retweet and @ reply habits then TweetStats is ideal. It does this extremely well by presenting your behaviour in simple, clear graphs. It is divided into 3 sections:

Tweet Stats

This section analyses how you use Twitter. It displays in graphs how many times you tweet per month, allowing you to zoom in on a particular month and day to analyze your total tweets, replies and retweets. It gives you a break-down of your tweet density, aggregate daily and hourly tweets, who you reply to, who you retweet and what interface you use for Twitter.

tweet_stats

Tweet Cloud

This section presents you with a cloud for both your retweeted hashtags and your most frequently used hashtags. If it is not something you have checked before the results can be a surprise.

Follower Stats

The final section allows you to track changes to your friend and follower count over time.

Tweetstats is ideal if you are curious about your tweeting habits and if you want to research what other users tweet about by using the Tweet Cloud feature.

Tool: Trendistic

Twitter’s ‘trending topics’ feature helps users see what’s being talked about, but there is not much you can do with it. TweetStats Trends feature provides a nice graph of the day’s top 10 trends and what is currently trending. But if you are trying to research topics in more depth then these tools are inadequate.

Trendistic, in contrast, provides a broader range of features that allow users to track trends on Twitter through a visual graph of the number of mentions along with random tweets about that topic. This helps you keep track of conversations over time to see how often they are tweeted about. For example, it is possible to see how popular ‘icloud’ is on June 7th among Twitter users and see what people are tweeting about ‘icloud’ over the course of the day.

twitter_trends

The feature that I like most on Trensidtic is the ability to compare up to 6 words and graphs their popularity against each other across 24 hours or up to the previous 6 months. If you want to share your chart you can either embed it or share it on Twitter. You can also receive alert emails about a topic once it starts to trend.

There is also a list of trending topics over the last 7 days with details about when each topic was hot and when the maximum number of tweets occurred. You can view a graph of its trending history and selected tweets.

Tool: WeFollow
WeFollow is a great user directory with a clean and simple interface. It doesn’t stand out compared to other Twitter user directories, but what I like about is it gives a quick idea of who the most popular people in your industry or interest area are. It uses hashtags to categorize people and covers numerous popular categories such as Music, Sport, Tech, Politics, Fashion and Health. Anyone can add themselves to the directory by applying up to 5 hashtags to themselves.

When you search for your topic of interest it lists users based on who is the ‘Most Influential’ and who has the ‘Most Followers’. This is a simple and obvious way of organizing users and is effective when you want to find out whom to follow on specific topics. Often, however, the people you want to engage with are not those with the most followers or highest number of tweets (if you can even get their attention). Knowing who the influencers are in your interest area is better handled by a tool like Klout than WeFollow.

wefollow

Tool: Klout

Klout is a measurement tool that helps you focus on how messages are spread through your network. It gives an indication of a person’s reach within their network and how engaged they are with their network. It achieves this by measuring aspects of Twitter usage and focusing on how messages are spread through their network.

klout

To calculate your total social influence Klout measures users in three categories:

Network Influence

This measures how effective you are at capturing the attention of influencers. It measure a user’s list inclusion, influence of followers, influence of retweeters, influence of friends, influence of people who mention you, and your follower / following ratio.

Amplification Probability

This measures how often your content is reposted or retweeted by looking at your engagement level in conversations, how often your content is reported, and if your posts result in new followers and conversations. It measures uniqueness, likes per post, comment per post, retweet percentage, inbound messages per outbound content, and how often you update.

True Reach

This measures how far your influence reaches based on how engaged your audience is, how likely are they to read your content, and respond or share it. True Reach measures a user’s followers, retweets, unique commentators and likes, mentions, list counts, and mutual followers.

Klout is a great way to see how well you are building your influence especially by giving you more information about your social graph. It takes a fundamentally different approach to a tool like WeFollow. It adopts a bottom-up approach to measuring influence in contrast to looking at who has the most number of followers or tweets. Klout thus enables users to research who are the influencers that are listening and engaging with their network and so whose messages are going furthest. I see three specific benefits:

1. It allows users to research and target influential Twitter users to follow and – hopefully – engage with

2. It allows users who share a lot of content to track their online reach or influence and to see how active their followers are

3. It allows users to benchmark themselves against high influencers

Tool: InboxQ

So far we have covered tools that allow you to research your or other users’ Twitter usage and analyse and benchmark your social web clout. However, Twitter is also a platform where a lot of Q&A happens, and it is crucial both for brands and individual users’ own influence to engage with people. Finding the right questions and comments to respond to, and leveraging this for businesses and users, is a task made much easier by InboxQ.

It is a web browser extension (and a plug-in on Seesmic Desktop) that enables conversations by sending a real-time stream of Twitter questions related to brands, products, or subjects of your choice to your browser. Apparently only 1% of tweets with questions marks are real questions, so InboxQ uses natural language processing software to detect real questions.

inboxq

I like the fact that InboxQ is an extension – one less website to open. This means it gets more attention than other tools. It is very simple to start a campaign by just adding terms or keywords that cover your area of interest. Relevant tweets are then sent to your inbox. You can also refer questions to your Twitter followers via a direct message, set-up questions to be answered later, and track answers. Expanding InboxQ to also crawl Quora, as it plans to, will be a great additional feature.

I hope this article will help users understand how they can use Twitter for research. There are many more Twitter tools than the ones discussed here, so if you happen to know some that you think can be added in the list, please let me know. Also, I have summarized my research below in a presentation.
